[MIFFest] Cecilia Choi Celebrates Birthday in Malaysia, Talks About Having Kids: Will Focus on Taking Care of Cats First

Published at Jul 25, 2026 04:26 pm
Cecilia Choi, visiting Malaysia for the first time, attended the world premiere of the cross-national production film "Bluefish" on the evening of the 23rd. It happened to be her 32nd birthday, and she said with a smile that the most unforgettable moment was when the audience at the venue sang her a birthday song. Celebrating her birthday for the first time as Mrs. Lau after her marriage, she sweetly revealed that her husband, Terrance Lau, had already arranged an early celebration with a meal, cake, and surprised her with flowers. When asked about plans to welcome a 'three-person world' (have children), she admitted that there's no such plan for now since both of them currently have their own dreams and careers to develop, and, in addition, the two cats at home also need their companionship and care, so for now, they're focusing on taking care of their "cats" first.

Mentioning that many Hong Kong artists have come to Malaysia to shoot movies in recent years, she said she would also love to take part in Malaysian film productions if given the chance, and added with a laugh, "You’ll have to help me by spreading the word!" She admitted that, as it's her first time in Malaysia, she already felt the warm welcome and hospitality of Malaysians, and she loves the multicultural, blended atmosphere here. "I think there's a great sense of inclusivity here, and I can experience many different cultures. It’s very refreshing for me, so I hope I’ll have the opportunity to participate in Malaysian movies in the future."
