Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Zaleha announced that the government will establish a high-level sports center in Putrajaya, which will also serve as a training ground for Federal Territories sports training.

She mentioned to the media on Friday (25th) after awarding Prosperous Aid funds to sports groups in Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur, that the ministry considered the issue of building a sports center after the Malaysia Games held in Sarawak.

"We witnessed the excellent performance of Federal Territory athletes during the Malaysia Games; therefore, we discussed the concept of establishing a sports center with top management and felt that Putrajaya is a very suitable location."

She said that after discussions with Putrajaya Holdings, who are interested in cooperating, the government decided to build the sports center in Putrajaya's 13th precinct; however, further discussions with relevant stakeholders are needed regarding the facilities required for the sports center.

During today's event, Zaleha awarded a total of RM278,000 to 77 sports groups from Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

Previously, 22 sports groups in Labuan received a total of RM57,000 on February 23, which means the sports groups in the Federal Territories have received a total of RM334,000.

According to a statement from the Federal Territory Sports Council, the council selects groups to receive funding based on their annual activity levels.

Furthermore, Zaleha also stated that starting next year, the Federal Territory Sports Committee will introduce a Federal Territory Regional Sports Organization Star Certification Award to recognize Federal Territory organizations that excel in management.
