Incident of SPM examination results report with a mistake in flag illustration; MCA Youth believes that the ministry promotes students wearing the national flag to cultivate patriotic spirit and love for the country, but ironically, it contradicts the spirit of its advocacy in official documents.
MCA Youth has reported this matter to the police and urged the Minister and Deputy Minister of Education to resign to take responsibility.
According to the statement by Lee Wen Hsien, the acting chief of MCA Youth, the group strongly condemns the Education Ministry for the serious oversight of incorrectly displaying the national flag in the SPM examination results analysis report.
The statement noted that the national flag is a symbol of national dignity and must be viewed seriously without any errors.
The statement emphasized that the recent initiative by the Education Ministry for students to wear the national flag aims to foster their patriotic spirit and love for the country, enhancing their national pride and respect, and strengthening discipline.
“Ironically, the Ministry itself has severely misused the national flag in its official documents, gravely contradicting the spirit it advocates.”
“As a national educational institution, the Ministry of Education should set an example and take all matters related to national symbols seriously to avoid misleading our children with incorrect information.”
“Such negligence not only damages the country’s image but may also undermine students’ respect and recognition of the national flag.”
Lee Wen Hsien, accompanied by Deputy Chief Wu Ji Lung, Secretary-General Tan Huan Xiong, and Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory Deputy Chief Fu Jun Ming, went to Cheras Police Station to lodge the report.
The statement also called on the government to treat all departments equally, thoroughly investigate the responsibility, disclose the findings, and ensure all government departments handle the use of national symbols more rigorously in the future.
Additionally, the Education Ministry should consider having all its government officials wear the national flag pin to truly practice patriotism, not just as a slogan but in action.
Furthermore, MCA Youth believes that the Minister and Deputy Minister of Education cannot shirk their responsibility and should resign. MCA Youth will also file a police report requesting police intervention.
“Notably, Sin Chew Daily recently publicly apologized for a similar flag error, and police investigations are underway. During this sensitive period, the Education Ministry's repetition of the same error necessitates that the police conduct a thorough investigation, adhering to the principle of equal treatment.”
