Worried Twin Daughters Would Be a Burden, Father Conspires with Family to Kill the Children

In the Indian village of Jubilee Nagar, a pair of four-year-old twin girls were brutally murdered, stemming from a family's obsession with having a son. Police have also revealed horrifying details of a plot that was allegedly planned months before the girls' deaths.

Local police officer Reddy stated that the twins' father, 28-year-old Srisailam, together with his parents Ashok and Lavanya, as well as his brother Rakesh, conspired to murder the twin girls because they believed daughters would be a "burden" on the family.

“Srisailam never wanted a girl; he always wanted a son,” the investigating inspector said. “Even during his wife’s pregnancy, upon learning she was carrying twin girls, he attempted to force her to abort.”

According to police, Srisailam holds a master's degree in business and works as a computer operator at Pratima Medical College. He married Monica in 2020. In 2022, the couple welcomed twin daughters, but he refused to accept them.

“After the children were born, he never even went to the hospital to see them,” said Reddy. “His parents and brother were also displeased with the birth of the twin girls. They repeatedly pressured Monica to have an abortion, but she refused.”

Police said Srisailam often argued with his wife and eventually sent her back to her parental home. Investigators stated he believed his assets, worth nearly 20 million rupees (approximately 860,000 ringgit), would be spent on his daughters’ marriages.

“He felt everything he owned would be lost because of his daughters,” said the officer. “His parents and brother shared the same view. Ultimately, the four of them conspired to murder the two children.”

Investigations showed the family had plotted the murders four days before committing the crime.

On the afternoon of April 3, Srisailam had his wife stay home to cook mutton curry and took the twins to the family’s farmland, telling her he would be back soon.

“He deliberately chose a time when there were no other farmers in the field,” said police. “He had the children sit and play by the well.”

Srisailam first pushed one girl, Geetavanka, into the well, killing her instantly. The second child, Geetamsi, struggled to survive in the water.

“When he realized she was still alive, he climbed into the well and drowned her with his own hands,” said the investigating inspector. “This was an extremely cruel and deliberately planned crime.”

Police said that after the murder, Srisailam pretended to rescue the children and shouted for help, trying to stage the scene as an accident.

Monica, the mother, arrived at the field upon hearing his cries, finding one daughter on the side of the well and the other still missing. Villagers and farmers hurried to the site and used ropes to pull the children up.

“When questioned, Srisailam lied and said he had gone to cut grass and later discovered the girls were missing,” said Reddy. “But villagers grew suspicious because his story kept changing.”

It is reported that angry villagers beat Srisailam before the police intervened. He later fled the scene and informed his parents and brother that “the plan had succeeded,” according to investigators.

Subsequently, the four suspects hid at a relative's home in Gopalpur, but were later tracked down and arrested.

Police later brought in professional divers to recover the second child’s body from the well.

“This is one of the most shocking and inhumane crimes we have ever investigated,” said Reddy. “The victims were innocent children, murdered simply because they were girls. We will ensure the harshest punishment for everyone involved.”
