Serious Air Crash at Korean Airport Acting President Orders Full Rescue Effort

South Korea's Acting President and Deputy Prime Minister Choi Sang-mok on Sunday (December 29) ordered the mobilization of all available equipment and manpower to handle the air crash at Muan Airport.

He chaired a meeting at the Central Disaster Management Office of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters, issuing a directive to the Minister of Administration and Safety to fully engage in rescue operations.

He emphasized the need to pay particular attention to preventing safety incidents among emergency personnel during the rescue operations.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of South Korea has established a Central Accident Response Headquarters to handle the air crash, sending seven investigators from the Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Committee and staff from the Aircraft Technical Department to the scene.

The Korea Airports Corporation has also initiated emergency response measures, forming an accident response command unit as per guidelines, and has established an integrated command center at Muan Airport.
