Supporters and opponents of South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol held large rallies in Seoul on Saturday.
The South Korean police estimated that 35,000 people attended the anti-Yoon Suk-yeol rally near Gyeongbokgung Palace, but the organizers claimed that the number exceeded 500,000.
At the anti-Yoon rally, protesters waved glow sticks, chanting "Arrest Yoon Suk-yeol immediately." Some called for the Constitutional Court to remove Yoon Suk-yeol from office, while others demanded the dissolution of the ruling People Power Party.
The organizers of the anti-Yoon rally pointed out that the public anger supporting impeachment is burning fiercely, demanding Yoon Suk-yeol's immediate removal and punishment.
At the same time, about 35,000 supporters of Yoon Suk-yeol held a rally. One protester held a sign reading "Impeachment invalid," and others called for the arrest of Lee Jae-myung.
The People Power Party on Saturday also condemned the opposition parties for repeatedly initiating impeachments, calling it an attempt to overthrow the government, and stated that the impeachment is invalid.
A spokesperson for the People Power Party said that the impeachment against Han Deok-soo should be invalid because it does not meet the requirements for impeachment of a substitute president and the legal approval numbers.
The parliamentary vote on Friday for Han Deok-soo's impeachment had just over half of the lawmakers in favor, rather than the two-thirds threshold required for a presidential impeachment.
