Recently, Dee Hsu (Xiao S) won the Best Variety Show Host Award at the 60th Golden Bell Awards, revealing that she was wearing a necklace containing the ashes of her elder sister Barbie Hsu (Da S), allowing Da S to accompany her as she once again stepped in front of the audience to share this glorious moment. Reportedly, the ash necklaces were designed by Koo Jun-yup, coming in two styles: one is the black agate style worn by Xiao S, and the other is a silver version. Koo Jun-yup kept one for himself and distributed several to Da S’s sisters as well as close friends from her lifetime. On the 26th, Christine Fan (FanFan) performed on stage wearing a silver heart-shaped pendant, and some Chinese media claimed it was Da S’s ash necklace. The topic shot to the top of the entertainment trending chart, but FanFan herself did not mention it, and netizens found that it was actually a branded piece of jewelry.
It is understood that the ash necklaces crafted by Koo Jun-yup were given to Xiao S, the eldest sister Chen-Chen, FanFan, Mavis Fan, Patty Wu, Aya Liu, Alyssa Chia, Patty Hou, and a non-celebrity named A-Ru who is around the same age as the Hsu sisters and also Xiao S’s neighbor, with whom they share a close relationship.
FanFan performed at the "Guoyuan Night · Superstar Concert" in Yancheng, Jiangsu, China on the 26th. After singing "Can I Not Be Brave," a song that witnesses her friendship with the Hsu sisters, she blew three kisses to the sky, as if paying tribute to Da S. Some media outlets then made a story out of the heart-shaped necklace she wore that day, claiming she was wearing Da S's ash necklace. This claim has not been confirmed by FanFan herself, and netizens tracked down the necklace to be a piece from Swedish brand Acne Studios. Nevertheless, “Christine Fan wears Da S’s ash necklace at concert” still reached the top spot on Weibo’s entertainment trending chart, with some netizens criticising FanFan for exploiting the deceased, when in fact she was wrongly accused.
