Landslide in Baiyun District, Guangzhou: 2 Dead, 5 Still Missing

After consecutive heavy rains in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China, a landslide occurred in Baiyun District on the 6th, resulting in multiple people being trapped. Of the 14 people trapped, 9 have been rescued (including 2 deaths and 7 injuries), while the remaining 5 are still being actively searched for.

According to previous reports, the Baiyun District Emergency Management Bureau of Guangzhou issued a notice stating that around 8:30 am on the 6th, a landslide caused by continuous rainfall damaged houses in the Huangzhuang area of Dayuan Village, Dayuan Street. As of noon that day, 14 people were found trapped, and 7 had been rescued (currently in stable condition), with rescue efforts for the others ongoing.

The authorities have relocated nearly 1,000 residents from the scene. By 5:45 pm, rescuers had saved one more person, reducing the number of missing to six. However, of the eight rescued, one was confirmed dead and the remaining seven injured.

As of 5 pm on the 6th, the government had mobilized personnel from the fire department, police, urban management, water affairs, and other departments, totaling 607 deployments, using life detectors, hydraulic expanders, excavators, and other equipment for rescue work.

While search operations are ongoing, authorities are also inspecting surrounding areas and properly organizing the relocation of residents.
