Silver Prices Hit 13-Year High, Jewelry Consumption Surges

Since 2025, international silver prices have continued to rise, with the spot price of silver in London at one point exceeding USD 39 (RM164.84) per ounce, hitting a nearly 13-year high. No wonder related products have recently seen a sales boom.

Chen Yun, head of a silver jewelry wholesale store in Shanghai, said that the current silver price has increased by 30% compared to the beginning of the year. Among these, "small-weight" and "new Chinese style" jewelry are the most popular, with a monthly average shipment of over 10,000 pieces. She noted that in order to meet market demand, vendors have also launched new styles combined with materials like crystal and Hetian jade.

On the other hand, Yongxing County in Chenzhou, Hunan Province, is a major silver-producing area, accounting for 25% of the national output. The local government has innovatively launched a "cultural tourism + silver" model to attract numerous tourists. Notably, the "Yongxing Silver Tower" built with 50,000 taels of silver has even become a popular check-in spot, and intangible cultural heritage experiences such as traditional silver jewelry forging have also gained popularity.

Some tourists said that even though the silver price has risen from over 7 RMB (RM4.12) per gram to 8.7 RMB (RM5.11), they are still willing to purchase silver jewelry as gifts. Enterprises in Chenzhou reported that the peak tourist season in summer has significantly boosted silver consumption, with a daily foot traffic of 500 to 800 people. Sales of investment and wealth management silver bars, among others, have increased by more than 20% compared to the same period last year.
