On the 30th, the WTO published the panel ruling in the dispute brought by China against the United States regarding the Inflation Reduction Act. The WTO panel found that the relevant US clean energy subsidy measures violated WTO rules, rejected the US claim that the measures were taken to protect public morals, and required the US to remove the relevant subsidies. A spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Commerce stated that China welcomes and appreciates the panel’s objective and fair ruling.

The Ministry of Commerce emphasized that China has always been a staunch defender of WTO rules and the international economic and trade order, and hopes that the US will respect the panel’s ruling, abide by WTO rules, promptly take measures to correct its wrongful practices, and take concrete actions to uphold the international economic and trade order and promote stable and orderly development of international trade.

Ji Wenhua, a professor at the University of International Business and Economics, said that the panel fully supported China’s claims in this case and clearly determined that the US clean energy subsidy measures were violations, in essence constituting trade protectionism. Therefore, this ruling is an important victory for China in the field of international economic and trade law.
