(India, 13th) Indian police stated that out of the 242 passengers on the Indian airline flight that crashed on the afternoon of the 12th, the only known survivor, Ramesh, was sitting near the emergency exit and eventually escaped by jumping out of the cabin.
40-year-old Ramesh, a British Indian, stated to Indian media from his hospital bed that he was returning to the UK with his brother after visiting family.
Ramesh told the media, "When I stood up, there were bodies all around me. I was terrified and started running. Pieces of the plane were scattered everywhere. Someone grabbed me, lifted me onto an ambulance, and took me to the hospital."
The social media footage aired by Indian news channels shows a man wearing a blood-stained white T-shirt and dark pants, staggering forward with the assistance of medical personnel. He has a goatee and bruises on his face, resembling the photos of Ramesh in the hospital published by local media.
The Hindustan Times published an image of Ramesh's boarding pass online, showing he was seated in seat 11A on a flight to London Gatwick Airport.
Ramesh told the Hindustan Times that his brother Anjay was seated in another row on the plane and requested assistance in searching for him.
A senior police officer in Ahmedabad, Choudhary, mentioned Ramesh, saying, "He was near the emergency exit at the time and ultimately escaped by jumping out of the emergency exit."
