Frequent Weather Changes; Localized Heavy Rain and Strong Winds

Published at Aug 20, 2025 01:56 pm
(Bandar Seri Begawan, 20th) The Brunei Meteorological Department has issued a statement saying that Brunei is currently in the Southwest Monsoon period, which is expected to last until September 2025.
Intermittent showers or thunderstorms are expected, with localized areas potentially experiencing heavy rain and strong winds. Wind speeds during heavy rain and thunderstorms may reach up to 45 kilometers per hour.
Sea conditions are generally calm, with wave heights between 0.5 meters and 1.0 meters.
The Meteorological Department reminds the public to take precautionary measures regarding the upcoming active weather conditions. Due to continuous heavy rainfall and rising tides, areas that are low-lying and prone to flooding, especially those near riverbanks, are at higher risk of flooding. During periods of heavy rain and gusty winds, there is also a possibility of landslides, fallen trees, and roofs being blown off.
The public, road users, and fishermen are advised to stay updated on the latest weather forecasts, warnings, and advice issued by the Meteorological Department, and to take necessary safety measures.
The latest weather information, alerts, and warnings can be easily accessed through BDMD's mobile app Brunei WX, or by contacting the Weather Hotline at 114 to reach the Meteorological Forecast Center.
