(Bandar Seri Begawan, 14th) The first preparatory meeting for the Brunei-Muara District's celebration of the Sultan's 80th birthday was held this morning at the Brunei-Muara District Office, officially kicking off the preparations for the festivities.
Brunei-Muara District Officer, Pengiran Mohd Mubarol, chaired the meeting in his capacity as Chairman of the Brunei-Muara District Celebration Committee.
He said the enthusiastic attendance of committee members reflects the people's steadfast loyalty to His Majesty the Sultan, symbolizing their love and highest respect for the head of state.
He pointed out that the National Celebration Committee had already convened on the 12th of this month to discuss preparations for the Brunei-Muara District's "Sultan with the People" event.
The celebration will take place on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the Omar Ali Saifuddien Square in Bandar Seri Begawan, following the framework of last year's celebration.
He said that this meeting continues the successful experience from last year's 79th birthday festivities and serves as an overall planning session for this year's 80th birthday celebration.
"Planning for the national-level celebration requires the support and implementation, especially from the grassroots and district levels, to proceed smoothly."
On behalf of the Brunei-Muara District Celebration Committee, he announced four key activities to celebrate the Sultan's 80th birthday this year: the flag-raising ceremony, the "Sultan with the People" event, evening stage performances and competitions, as well as celebration stalls and socio-economic activities.
He said the authorities hope the celebrations will present a well-organized, content-rich, and spectacular live performance, showcasing the people's gratitude and love for the King and country, while highlighting the active participation of towns, villages, educational institutions, NGOs, youth, and the community.
Additionally, arrangements will be made for the number of attendees, seating, flow of guests and participants, as well as other logistical needs. Effective security, hygiene, and traffic control measures will be implemented to ensure the celebrations run smoothly.
He stated that committee group leaders and members play important roles, including program preparation, guest reception, transportation coordination, venue cleaning, and media promotion.
"We hope to carry forward the success of past celebrations and deliver an even more impressive event at this historic moment of the Sultan's 80th birthday."
He also took the opportunity to thank all committee members for the successful organization of last year's 79th birthday celebration and for their continued cooperation in jointly organizing this year's festivities.
