(Thailand, 9th) The Thai Armed Forces Headquarters has issued an announcement stating that the 'National Security Threat Defense Command Center', responsible for border security, has ordered full support for the army and navy in addressing tensions at the Thai-Cambodian border, safeguarding national sovereignty, and protecting the Thai people.
The announcement pointed out that the situation at the current Thai-Cambodian border is tense, with Cambodian armed personnel crossing into Thai territory. Although the Thai government, the Ministry of Defense, and the army have attempted to ease the situation through bilateral cooperation mechanisms with Cambodia, there has been no positive response from the Cambodian side. Additionally, Cambodia continues to increase its troops, weapons, and military facilities in the border area, posing a high risk of conflict and severely threatening the safety of Thai citizens in the border area.
Therefore, based on the resolutions of the National Security Council and the policies of the Ministry of Defense, the army and navy have formulated new measures to strictly control the opening and closing of all types of border channels. The army and navy also issued directives No. 806/2568 and No. 447/2568 on June 7, 2025, respectively. To coordinate with these border control measures, the National Security Threat Defense Command Center issued the following orders:
1. All Thai border provinces adjacent to Cambodia and relevant institutions are required to support the army's subordinate units, as well as the Chanthaburi-Trat Border Command, in executing stability maintenance tasks and implementing channel control measures;
2. The Immigration Office and other relevant units are required to strengthen control over the movement of people in and out of the Thai-Cambodian border areas, especially in high-risk areas related to technical crimes and gambling activities, including Kap Choeng District in Surin Province, Ban Kruat District in Buriram Province, Aranyaprathet District in Sa Kaeo Province, Pong Nam Ron District in Chanthaburi Province, and Khlong Yai District in Trat Province.
Moreover, intelligence reports indicate that a large number of individuals or groups are still engaged in technical crimes and human trafficking activities at the Thai-Cambodian border, causing severe damage to the economy and society of Thailand and the world. Therefore, the National Security Threat Defense Command Center has decided to take the following countermeasures:
1. Formally inform the Cambodian government to expedite the crackdown on technical crimes and human trafficking activities nationwide, legally apprehending and severely punishing all involved personnel and their supporters;
2. Enhance the intensity of crackdowns, including cutting off the power supply to gambling zones and fraud centers, disrupting internet signals, and restricting the circulation of goods and equipment that can be used for criminal activities, and will propose further suggestions and measures to the National Security Council.
The Thai National Security Threat Defense Command Center will coordinate with relevant units to implement the above measures, ensuring the implementation of government policies. At the same time, it will ensure that the daily lives of people in the border areas are not affected and will closely monitor the development of the situation, taking further necessary actions as needed until the situation stabilizes.
