(Kuching, 7th) Sarawak Premier Abang Johari has approved the application submitted by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts to construct a new office building for the Sarawak Arts Council (SAC).
Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim stated that his ministry will promptly proceed with follow-up planning work.
He said: “Although no specific allocation has been set yet, we will strive to realize the Premier’s vision.
“We should not be concerned about whether this project is included in the 13th Malaysia Plan or the budget, but instead must respect the Premier’s decision.” He made these remarks on Monday (6th) while attending the Sarawak Arts Council 2026 Thanksgiving Dinner.
Regarding the location, he pointed out that it is proposed to rebuild the office at the former Rumah Sarawak site along Jalan Budaya, as the Sarawak Performing Arts Centre is not suitable for administrative operations.
He, who also serves as Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, disclosed that this location was also suggested by the Premier.
He also emphasized that the Sarawak Arts Council plays an important role in promoting and developing the state’s arts and culture.
Attendees at the event included Deputy Minister Snowdan Lawan and Datuk Chen Chao Yao.
