National Registration Department Clarifies Director's Remarks: Related to MyKad Abuse Investigation

(Kuching, 7th) The National Registration Department (NRD) stresses that as long as the public complies with current laws and regulations, they can still use their MyKad to enjoy fuel subsidies under the Budi MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) scheme, and there are no restrictions in place.
The department released a statement on Monday (6th) indicating that earlier remarks by Director Datuk Badrul Hisham Alias were made in relation to an investigation involving MyKad abuse, and were not intended to restrict the public from enjoying government subsidies.
The statement explained that the case involved an individual in Kelantan who allegedly used four MyKads that did not belong to him, which falls under the NRD's jurisdiction in enforcing identification document regulations.

“The focus of this investigation is on an individual suspected of abusing four MyKads. The Director's remarks were not intended to limit anyone from receiving government-provided subsidies.”
“The NRD urges all parties to refer to official sources and understand the true context before making any interpretation, to ensure that public discussion is more prudent and fact-based.”
The department also pointed out that under Regulation 25 of the National Registration Regulations 1990, it is a criminal offense for any individual to use or possess a MyKad that does not belong to them.
The department further reminded the public to use their personal MyKad properly, and not to hand it over to others for any transactions, including the purchase of subsidized fuel, to avoid legal issues and the risk of identity abuse.

“The NRD will continue to ensure that the MyKad functions as a legitimate and reliable identification tool, including supporting the government's implementation of initiatives like BUDI95.”
On April 1st, a man was arrested by police at a petrol station in Tumpat while refueling, suspected of using four individuals' MyKads to purchase subsidized fuel.
According to Berita Harian, Kelantan Chief Police Datuk Mohamad Yusoff stated that the man was apprehended during the refueling process.
Subsequently, the NRD has begun investigating whether individuals nationwide are using other people's identification cards at petrol stations to purchase subsidized fuel.
Datuk Badrul Hisham also emphasized that even using a family member’s MyKad to buy subsidized fuel is considered an illegal act.
