Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov stated that Japan’s acceleration of its “remilitarization” process poses a threat to peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region.
On the 2nd, the Russian Foreign Ministry website released the transcript of Lavrov’s answers to media inquiries regarding the achievements of Russian diplomacy in 2025. Speaking on the relevant issue, Lavrov said that the Japanese government intends to abolish the restrictions of the pacifist constitution, substantially increase its defense budget, develop offensive military strike capabilities, and increase military exercises with the United States and its allies. The acceleration of the “remilitarization” process poses a threat to peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region.
Lavrov pointed out that the Russian side has conveyed a clear message to Japan through diplomatic and public channels: any actions that exacerbate tensions in the Asia-Pacific region and threaten international security are unacceptable.
He stated that Russia and China will continue to resolutely uphold the historical truth of World War II, jointly oppose the distortion of history, and resist the resurgence of “militaristic revanchism.” The Japanese government must draw lessons from history and make a definitive break with the criminal policies that brought suffering to the world and Japan itself in the 20th century.
