(Kuala Belait, 4th) The Kuala Belait Fuzhou Association held its New Year’s Day celebration this morning at the association’s hall, where it also convened its general meeting and awarded scholarships for academic excellence. Chairman Huang Linming, in his speech, said, "We have already bid farewell to 2025, and today's gathering is to carry on the fine tradition established by our forebears—to come together on New Year’s Day and celebrate the new year as one."
Chairman Huang reflected on the challenges of the past year but remained grateful. He emphasized that although some words are often repeated, they remain ever fresh and are worth passing down through generations, such as "Carry forward the past and open up the future." In the new year, he hopes everyone will awaken their weary spirits, bravely pursue their dreams, ride the winds and waves, and strive forward.
He encouraged everyone to forget the past, seize the present, and head straight toward their goals: "Let us sing with passion, open our arms, embrace dreams, smile, and stride forward into a brand new year."
He pointed out that the elders deeply understood that children are the future masters of the nation, hence the establishment of the academic excellence award, not only to recognize the outstanding academic achievements of members’ children but also to encourage students to continually pursue excellence. He quoted the maxim: "Always strive for better, never stop until good becomes better and better becomes best," stressing that learning and growth never end, and everyone should keep progressing and developing their potential.
On the same day, the general meeting was also held to review the past year's operations and financial status, as well as to report on future plans, allowing members to better understand the association's development. He mentioned that the elders advanced the meeting process with the spirit of “Enduring harmony through mutual understanding among merchants, achieving success through harmonious meetings.” It is understood this couplet was gifted to the association by the famous Sibu calligrapher, while the “fine steed” was a gift from a Taiwanese general.
Chairman Huang called on members to put the greater good first, to be understanding and encouraging towards each other, and to acknowledge and support the efforts of the committee members, rather than nitpick.
He concluded by quoting Honorary Advisor Bao Pingsheng’s words to encourage the board of directors: “The board should sincerely regard every inquiry not as pressure, but as an opportunity for self-reflection and improvement. Only an organization that can listen to different voices and is willing to correct its shortcomings can go further and steadier.” He stressed that the board will continue to uphold the spirit of the constitution, respect history, cherish the elders, unite members’ consensus, and move together towards a steadier and more mature future.
