Kishi Sanae elected as the president of Japan's Liberal Democratic Party; China's Foreign Ministry says it hopes Japan will adopt a positive and rational policy toward China.
Regarding the election of the president of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party, a spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry responded to reporters’ questions on Saturday (October 4), saying that China has noticed the election result and considers it an internal affair of Japan.
The spokesperson said that China hopes the Japanese side will abide by the principles and consensus set out in the four political documents between China and Japan, honor its political commitments on major issues such as history and Taiwan, pursue a positive and rational China policy, and truly implement the positioning of comprehensively advancing the strategic relationship of mutual benefit.
The day of the Liberal Democratic Party’s leadership contest, the dust finally settled: former Economic Security Minister Kishi Sanae ultimately defeated Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister Shinjiro Koizumi, becoming not only the first female leader of the party in its history but also is expected to become the first female prime minister in the history of Japan’s constitutional system.
