The 17th "Hong Kong Cup" Diplomacy Knowledge Contest Concludes in Hong Kong

(Hong Kong, 18th) The final of the 17th "Hong Kong Cup" Diplomacy Knowledge Contest was held in Hong Kong on the 17th. The theme of this year's contest is "Understanding Diplomacy, Connecting the World," attracting nearly 80,000 students from 289 primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong, marking the largest scale in its history.
The "Hong Kong Cup" Diplomacy Knowledge Contest is jointly organized by the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, and the Better Hong Kong Foundation. Since its inception in 2007, it has become a public diplomacy brand event targeting Hong Kong youth.

At the final venue, contestants from five secondary schools competed on topics such as national foreign policy, international relations, and international hotspots. In the scenario simulation segment, students played the roles of diplomats, addressing and responding to international issues. Ultimately, Caritas Tuen Mun Marden Foundation Secondary School won the Gold Award in the grand final, Yan Oi Tong Tin Ka Ping Secondary School and Yan Chai Hospital Wong Wha San Secondary School received the Silver Award in the secondary school category, and Sha Tin Pui Ying College and Liu Po Shan Memorial College received the Bronze Award. Zheng Sifan from Yan Oi Tong Tin Ka Ping Secondary School won the Best Stage Presence Award.

Mak Yaxi, a student from Caritas Tuen Mun Marden Foundation Secondary School, stated that the team prepared for the competition for a month. Despite being busy with academics, everyone made time to study together, deepening their understanding of the history of China's diplomacy during the process.

Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu stated in his speech that he hopes students actively follow new developments of the country on the international stage, gain an in-depth understanding of the new goals and directions of China’s major-country diplomacy, and consider how Hong Kong can better integrate into the national development strategy, further leveraging the advantage of "backed by the motherland, connecting to the world" to enhance Hong Kong's and their own international competitiveness.

Cui Jianchun, the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, stated in his speech that the world is facing unprecedented changes in a century. In the current situation, Hong Kong's youth need to have both a commitment to their local community and a consciousness of the country, to find the right direction in the tide of global change.
