Hunan Man Renamed 'Zhou George Washington' Police Respond Not Approved

A man in Chenzhou, Hunan, China, claims he has successfully changed his name to 'Zhou George Washington,' but local police responded saying that the name has not passed the review.

The man in question was born in 2001 and was originally named Zhu Yunfei. Since May 2024, he has successively changed his name to 'Zhuque Xuanwu' and 'Zhuque Xuanwu Chiling.'

He stated on the 15th that he has officially changed his name to 'Zhou George Washington,' adopting his mother's surname Zhou.

He said, 'This name does not violate public order and morals because I like the US dollar, and George Washington is on the dollar.'

However, the Chenzhou Public Security Bureau responded to the media the next day, stating that this name has not yet passed the review process.

It is reported that the initial name change was because 'Zhu Yunfei' was the same name as someone else in his village, so he changed his name to 'Zhuque Xuanwu.' In January this year, he changed his name to 'Zhuque Xuanwu Chiling,' but found the name awkward, making it inconvenient in daily life, so he wanted a name with a more mystical touch.

On April 16 this year, he applied through the Hunan Government Service Network to change his name to 'Zhoutian Ziwei Dadi,' but the application was not approved. On April 26, he applied again to change his name to 'Zhu Xianning.'

On April 27, he attempted to change his name to a 48-character long title, 'Zhoutian Taishang Kaitian Zhifu Yuli Hanzhen Tidao Jinque Yunong Jiugong Yuli Wandao Wuwei Datongming Dian Haotian Jinque Zhizun Yuhuang Shezui Datianzun Xuanqiong Gaoshangdi,' but this was rejected by the public security department. He then submitted an application to change his name to 'Zhou Huangdi Wu Zetian,' claiming it would be his last name change application.

In an interview on the 15th, the man said that if he encounters a more satisfactory name in the future, he might apply for a name change again.

He emphasized that changing his name was not to seek attention, 'I have no plans to livestream, nor do I intend to become an internet celebrity.'
