On the 7th, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the funds Venezuela obtains from the U.S.-Venezuela oil agreement can only be used to purchase products made in the United States.
He wrote on his social media platform “Truth Social”: “I have just been informed that Venezuela will use the funds it receives from our new oil agreement solely for the purchase of American-made products.”
He pointed out that these purchases will include American agricultural products, as well as American-made medicines, medical equipment, and devices.
He said: “In other words, Venezuela has pledged to regard the United States as its primary partner in business dealings.”
Trump called this a “wise choice” and said it is “a good thing” for both countries.
Trading with the U.S. is “neither uncommon nor unusual”
Venezuelan interim president Rodriguez said that Venezuela is open to energy relationships from which all parties can benefit.
During a meeting with leaders of the Venezuelan National Assembly on the 7th, she stated: “Venezuela is open to energy relationships that allow all parties to benefit.”
She noted that the U.S. military’s attack to oust President Maduro has put a “stain” on the relationship between the two countries.
However, Rodriguez pointed out that, after the Venezuelan state-owned oil company (PDVSA) announced it was negotiating with the U.S. to sell crude oil, trading with the U.S. is “neither uncommon nor unusual” now.
