Wang Zuxian Exploiting Employees? Accused of Being Wealthy but Unkind

Published at Nov 18, 2025 05:37 pm
Known as the “Ethereal Goddess,” Wang Zuxian became a sensation across Asia in the 1990s with the film “A Chinese Ghost Story.” After retiring from showbiz, she settled in Vancouver, Canada. In recent years, she opened a moxibustion parlor named “Jiu Jue” and personally receives guests, attracting many fans. However, recently unfavorable allegations have appeared online; a netizen claiming to be an employee of her moxibustion parlor accused Wang Zuxian of exploiting her staff, sparking widespread attention.

According to circulating online chat screenshots, a netizen who claimed her sister works at Wang Zuxian’s moxibustion parlor alleged that Wang, although very hands-on, does not treat her employees well. The netizen said that Wang Zuxian’s parlor charges high prices—each session costs about 480 to 600 Canadian dollars (approximately MYR 1425 to 1781)—but licensed acupuncturist employees only earn 30 Canadian dollars per hour (about MYR 89), far lower than the previous hourly wage of 120 Canadian dollars (about MYR 356), and it’s even difficult to pay rent.

The whistleblower also revealed that when employees requested a raise, Wang Zuxian first pretended not to understand, and then responded with, “The shop has plenty of customers, do the job if you want, it’s up to you.” Because the pay is so low, few employees last long. The whistleblower further claimed that while Wang Zuxian appears polite in front of others, behind the scenes she relies on her shop’s popularity and her own fame—unafraid of not being able to find staff—thus chooses to exploit workers. The netizen sighed that Wang Zuxian’s actions have “totally destroyed the goddess image” in her heart. Additionally, other netizens commented saying they had spent 600 Canadian dollars on therapy but ended up being burned, further fueling the controversy. As of now, Wang Zuxian has yet to respond to the incident, and the truth remains to be clarified.
