Elderly Woman Living Alone in Dilapidated House Receives Aid from NGO

(Kuching, 18th) A 70-year-old woman living alone in a severely dilapidated wooden house has received help from the local NGO "Kuching Hope Place" after the village development and security committee (JKKK) of her village reported her situation to the organization.
The beneficiary, named Lily Apok, has been living alone ever since her husband passed away more than ten years ago.
Her four adult children are all married and living elsewhere, leaving her alone to shoulder daily life.

According to a statement released by Hope Place on Monday (Nov 17): "In her younger days, Lily worked at a poultry farm. Now, she suffers from a variety of health issues, including high blood pressure, knee ailments, and partial vision loss."
Despite her discomfort, she still cares for her small home vegetable garden with slow and careful steps.
She also visits elderly friends in the village; during quieter times, she watches a small TV gifted by her daughter.
However, her living conditions remain a concern. Her wooden house is badly damaged, including beams eaten by termites, a leaky roof, and a rotten front porch deck that could collapse at any time.

She told volunteers that the area around her house had experienced severe flooding, further damaging the structure.
Lily receives a monthly social welfare allowance of RM500. Her children rarely visit her, with only her daughter living in Samarindah occasionally coming by to check on her. Hope Place continues to provide her with basic food aid.
The public can contact Hope Place (Persatuan Kebajikan Harapan Kuching, PKHK) at 082-505987 or 013-5672775. The organization welcomes donations and can provide receipts as needed. Donations can be made directly to its Maybank account (MBB 511289001160), or via the Sarawak Pay/S PAY GLOBAL payment QR code provided on its Facebook page.
