However, the actual revenue received by the production company was less than expected. According to estimates, the film company only received about 5.1 billion RMB (about 3 billion MYR), accounting for roughly 38% of the total box office. Most of the remaining money was taken by cinemas (over 50%), with a portion also allocated to the film development fund and taxes.
The CEO of Enlight Media, which distributed "Nezha 2", Wang Changtian, stated bluntly at the Shanghai Film Festival that this revenue-sharing system is "unreasonable." He believes that the production team should receive more of the earnings. He emphasized, "The box office revenue share in China is one of the most unfair in the world. For a 100 RMB movie ticket, the production side may end up with only 33 RMB. After deducting distribution and promotion costs, there's hardly any profit, making it difficult to sustain the industry."
