(Lundu, 10th) The Metropolitan Food Cluster Opar (MFC Opar) project has currently reached nearly 30% completion, with progress ahead of schedule, demonstrating Sarawak's steady advancement in strengthening food security and promoting agricultural modernization.
This project, covering an area of 84 hectares, is jointly promoted by the Sarawak government and the Netherlands, reflecting both parties’ commitment to developing modern agricultural technology, driving innovation, and achieving sustainable food production.
Dato Sri Stephen Rundi, Sarawak Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development, stated in a press release that the project will utilize advanced Dutch agricultural technology to bring high-value foods produced by local farms to the global market.
He said: “At the same time, this initiative also encourages more young entrepreneurs to venture into the agribusiness sector, operating agriculture in a modern, technology-driven, and competitive manner.”
The project is expected to be completed in June 2027, by which time it will create more opportunities for farmers and agribusiness entrepreneurs, while strengthening local supply chains and economic activity in Lundu and surrounding areas.
