(Kuching, 10th) The annual Sadong Ramadan Bazaar was officially opened last night (9th), with the decorative lights on the Sadong pedestrian bridge lighting up simultaneously, creating a thick festive atmosphere throughout the area.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Regional Development Agency Projects Coordination, Kuching North City Commission, and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Abdul Rahman Junaidi stated that since its inception in 2010, this bazaar has reached its 16th edition this year, co-organized by the Sarawak Indigenous Entrepreneurs Cooperative and the Kuching North City Commission.
He said, through collaboration between the two parties, the size of the bazaar has expanded year by year, allowing more businesses to participate and offering a greater variety of products to the public, especially people who frequently visit the Sadong area.

“This year, a total of 200 stalls are taking part, selling various Ramadan and Hari Raya items. The bazaar starts from March 5 and will continue until the end of the fasting month and the arrival of Hari Raya.”
He made these remarks at the opening ceremony of the Sadong Ramadan Bazaar.
In addition to the Ramadan bazaar, there are also about 80 extra stalls operating along Sadong Road, offering visitors a variety of tempting foods and drinks.
Meanwhile, the Kuching North City Commission has installed 77 sets of RGB decorative lights and 62 wall-mounted lights on the Sadong pedestrian bridge. This lighting system can be dynamically adjusted according to different festive themes, such as Hari Raya and Chinese New Year.
Abdul Rahman pointed out that these decorative lights make the local environment more beautiful and vibrant, and will become a highlight to attract citizens, tourists, and visitors to Kuching, especially in the Sadong area.

“Many local restaurants and food stalls also operate until late at night, providing the public with all kinds of local delicacies.”
In terms of traffic, the Kuching North City Commission has arranged for traffic administrators to work with the police to ensure smooth traffic around the bazaar.
Attendees included Sadong constituency councilor Datuk Ibrahim Baki, and Kuching North City Commission Mayor Datuk Hilmy Osman.
In addition, a variety of Ramadan bazaar activities are also being held within the Kuching North City Commission's jurisdiction, including a Ramadan Bazaar organized by CENTEXS Commercial Services Sdn Bhd at Juma’ani Pavilion (March 9–18), as well as a post-Ramadan Car Boot Sale organized by the Kuching Car Boot Sale Community at the Sadong Flyover Car Park (March 14–15).
