Yu Shuxin’s Father Loses Lawsuit and Pays Up: Huang Yangdiantian Earring Controversy Investigation Results Released

Yu Shuxin, one of China’s top female celebrities, saw her father Yu Pijie lose a recent lawsuit where he sued a high school senior (underage student) for defamation. The Tongshan District Court of Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province, recently issued an official verdict, rejecting all claims of the plaintiff and ordering him to bear the case acceptance fee of 400 yuan (about 75 SGD).

The case arose because the defendant reposted online some controversial remarks involving "1.5 billion state-owned assets" and others. Yu’s father sought compensation for emotional distress, economic losses, and rights protection costs totaling 170,000 yuan (about 30,000 SGD). However, the verdict made clear that the reposted content was part of public discussion and was an act of exercising the right of citizen oversight, not malicious fabrications of facts, and thus did not constitute defamation.

The court also took into account that the defendant was a minor about to participate in the national college entrance exam, stating that forcing a public apology could lead to secondary online abuse. It emphasized that public figures and their families should not overly restrict reasonable public discussion.

After news of the loss spread, public criticism intensified over Yu’s father "abusing the right to sue" to suppress free speech. The public questioned why he deliberately targeted an underage student for the lawsuit instead of bloggers with far more reposts, suspecting an intention to distract attention from the source of the family’s wealth. Netizens mocked: "Using the law as a PR tool, and ended up paying 400 yuan instead."

Huang Yangdiantian’s Earrings Are Imitations, Not Luxury Items

On another note, emerging actress Huang Yangdiantian was caught up in controversy last year for wearing "sky-high-priced earrings," with her father suspected of corruption. Recently, with the promotion of her new drama "Ice Lake Rebirth," she issued her first public apology, stating that although rumors had been clarified, she felt deeply sorry for causing the stir and promised to work hard on correcting her mistakes and to become someone worthy of trust.

A joint working group in Ya’an City, Sichuan, launched an investigation into related online claims. Results showed that Huang’s father, Yang, did have three violations: first, in 2015, together with three civil servants, founded a company as relatives, with his wife holding a 25% stake and profiting, and the illegally obtained gains have since been confiscated. Second, in 2010, during the civil service exam application, he intentionally concealed the fact that they had a second child; however, as he has resigned and the relevant penalties have been abolished, it is no longer actionable. Third, regarding the "sky-high earring" rumors, investigations confirmed the earrings were imitation pieces gifted by a friend; testing proved they were ordinary glass earrings, not luxury goods.

The investigation also proved that neither Yang nor his wife participated in Ya’an post-disaster reconstruction projects or profited from them, and none of his other companies were operating commercially in the region. With this, the case is considered closed.
