The Malaysia-India Digital Council (MIDC) has been officially established to promote digital trade, technology exchange, and talent mobility initiatives between Malaysia and India.
This decision was made following a meeting between Malaysia's Minister of Digital, Gobin Singh, and India's Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini, during the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) held earlier this week in Bhubaneswar, India.
Gobin Singh stated in a press release today (10th) that this significant initiative marks a major leap in bilateral relations between Malaysia and India, strengthens cultural exchanges, and further unleashes the full potential of both countries in digital innovation and economic opportunities.
"Through the MIDC, we aim to create an ecosystem that supports joint growth, talent development, and technological progress for Malaysia and India."
The Ministry of Digital noted that through the council, Malaysia and India will commit to sharing experiences and exchanging technical expertise, policies, and regulatory approaches related to digital technology, as well as exploring business-to-business partnerships between industry associations.
The ministry also said they will focus on enhancing collaboration between startups and SMEs, while also upskilling and reskilling talent in emerging digital technology fields.
"The first meeting of the MIDC is expected to be held in the first half of this year and will lay the foundation for implementable projects and plans."
The 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was inaugurated yesterday by Indian Prime Minister Modi.
This event aims to acknowledge the contributions of the overseas Indian community to India's development and has attracted participants from more than 50 countries this year.
