Chinese actor Yu Menglong tragically passed away after falling from a building on the 11th of last month. Although the police initially ruled it an accident, conspiracy theories continued to circulate. To help his beloved protégé’s soul find peace, Yu Menglong’s mentor, veteran Taiwanese manager Sun De-rong, personally funded a 'Memorial and Soul-Calming Ceremony for Menglong,' which took place yesterday (17th) at 12:20 pm at New Moon Hall in Banqiao, New Taipei City. The event was open for fans to attend and was simultaneously livestreamed on YouTube. News of the event drew significant attention, and online viewership once exceeded 10,000.
The entire ceremony lasted about five hours, with rituals including inviting the protection of various Buddhas, summoning and calming the soul, scripture chanting and blessing dedication, releasing souls from the realm of wrongful death, and dissolving grievances and conflicts through enlightenment and purification. The atmosphere was solemn and sorrowful. Sun De-rong sent the message, “The sky will brighten!” which he said was what he wanted to say to Yu Menglong in heaven, hoping that he could find peace and light in the other world.
All seats at the live venue were filled, with fans coming to pay their respects, creating a warm yet sorrowful atmosphere. In the livestream chat, messages flooded in such as 'Farewell, Menglong' and 'Hope he no longer suffers in the next world.' Many viewers couldn’t help but tear up while watching, expressing that they would always remember his smile and works, and wished his spirit eternal peace.
