Little S Wins Golden Bell Best Variety Show Host, Tearfully Thanks Big S: 'But I Won't Give You the Award'

The 60th Golden Bell Awards for Television Programs concluded last night (17th) at the Taipei Music Center. The 'Variety Show Host Award' was won by Little S (Dee Hsu), who had been out of work for eight months, and Patrick, for their show 'Miss Not Xidi'. Little S couldn't help but shed tears, calling out to her late sister Big S: 'If it wasn’t for your encouragement back then, I might never have returned to hosting. But this award, sorry, I won’t give it to you.' She then broke down in tears and spoke to their mother: 'Mom, put this award together with Shanshan's. I believe the hole in your heart will soon be filled.'

After winning the award, Little S couldn’t help but cry on stage: 'I want to dedicate this to my mother, because she said there’s a huge hole in her heart, and she said if I won today, maybe that hole would be a little more filled. So, mom, put this award together with Shanshan’s—I believe the hole will soon be filled.'

A long-awaited appearance; choked up before even reaching the stage

Little S (Dee Hsu) and Kevin Tsai reunited to recreate the classic 'Kangxi Coming' scene, jointly presenting two awards: 'Variety Show' and 'Variety Show Host'. This was also Little S’s first public appearance since losing her sister Big S early this year. Clad in a black strapless gown, she was already choked with emotion as she slowly came out, covering her mouth and holding back tears before she even got to the stage. Her struggle not to break down was heart-wrenching, moving many celebrities in the audience to tears as well.

Necklace holding her ashes accompanies her in winning the award

After winning, Little S revealed backstage that she had brought Big S with her by carrying some of her in a necklace: 'This is a part of my sister inside—I wear it when I miss her.' It is understood that the pendant contains some of Big S’s ashes, which Big S’s husband DJ Koo personally designed into necklaces, making seven in total and distributing them among S-Group sisters. Little S wore this special necklace to win her award, something that deeply touched many.

In addition, Little S had the character 'Yuan' (Big S’s given name) tattooed on the back of her neck and even called out to her sister: 'Sis, you're really amazing—you must have made many powerful friends.'

Emotional thanks to Kevin Tsai! Return Date Unveiled: 'Let Me Get Through New Year's First'

After the ceremony, Little S attended the celebration party—her rare public appearance. She expressed her gratitude to Kevin Tsai: 'I’m really thankful he was willing to support me today. If he hadn’t been with me, maybe I wouldn’t have had the courage to stand on stage.'

Little S revealed that she’d been nervous for a month leading up to going on stage: 'I didn’t want the audience to think I was being overly sentimental, so I wondered if they’d want to see a slightly humorous Little S again.' Kevin Tsai encouraged her, promising to support her no matter what, and the two rehearsed countless times before the show, though much of what actually happened on stage was impromptu. Little S laughed, 'A lot of what I did on stage was improvised—I guess I really am a good fit for making a comeback.'

When asked about her comeback to television, Little S responded for the first time: 'I will return, but I don’t know when. At least let me get through New Year's, because that's a hard day for me. In the past, we always had dinner together at Big S’s home on New Year's Eve, stayed up until midnight, then went downstairs to watch the fireworks. So this year, I really don’t know how to get through New Year's without her.'

Resembling Big S’s Aura

In the past, people have noted that Little S and Big S each had their own distinct looks, but last night, every gesture, smile, and facial expression of Little S bore an uncanny resemblance to her sister. Netizens commented: 'Amazing—her sister’s aura appeared in her face,' 'That smile really looks like Big S,' 'She looks so much like Big S,' and 'She is just like Xiyuan now.' In addition to calling out, 'Sis, watch over me!' Little S even made a dark joke, as if speaking to her sister: 'Shan, do you like it?' As if Big S had never left, some netizens created composite images to reunite the sisters, causing a flood of tears online.

Rainie Yang also shared the post: 'Thank you for returning to the stage.' Wu Qingfeng commented, 'Love you,' and Valen Hsu wrote: 'Xidi, you’re amazing! So beautiful!! Golden Bell Insider|Not A Sympathy Vote!
Little S Clinched the Award Over Ah Ken, Amber An in Two Rounds of Voting

The Best Variety Show Host Award went to Little S and Patrick for 'Miss Not Xidi'. The programming committee chair Liu Song said the judges spent a long time in discussion, and after two rounds of voting, there was strong consensus for Little S’s team, who won by a landslide over Ah Ken and Amber An from 'Classmates Are Here!'.

Following Big S’s sudden passing, Little S endured a long period of grief. As she won, some speculated she was awarded out of sympathy or encouragement to help her bounce back. Liu Song denied this: 'Impossible—it was a professional judging decision. The two winners thoroughly impressed with their overall performance, mutual rapport, and how they engaged viewers.'

Asked what clinched the award for Little S and Patrick, Liu Song admitted: 'Neither of them needed to fight for attention. They can take turns leading and supporting. The show isn’t just entertaining, but also touching. Little S is very experienced and brings much more than just laughter or tears. The program has a very high level of quality.'
