Due to persistent disagreements between China and Japan over the Taiwan issue, Chinese authorities have once again emphasized that Premier Li Qiang has no arrangements to meet Japanese leaders during the Group of Twenty (G20) leaders' summit held in South Africa on the 22nd, stating: “We urge the Japanese side to exercise self-restraint.”
At the regular press conference held by China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 20th, a reporter asked: The spokesperson has previously stated that Premier Li Qiang has no meeting scheduled with Japanese leaders during the G20. “However, the Japanese side continues to claim that they remain open to dialogue and contact with China. Is there any possibility for leaders of China and Japan to interact during the G20?”
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning responded: “Premier Li Qiang has no arrangements to meet Japanese leaders. We urge the Japanese side to exercise self-restraint.”
