(Miri 24th) Miri City Council will start implementing parking fees in several commercial areas from March 1.
The designated areas include the 246 parking spaces in the commercial area Lot 8546 at Jalan Luak Bay, marked as the green parking zone; 98 spaces at Jalan Luak Bakam / Tamu Dato Haji Ahmad Lai Lot 3386 are marked as the blue parking zone; and 119 parking spaces in the commercial area Lot 10639 opposite Miri Airport, which are also marked as the green parking zone.
In addition, Miri City Council wishes to provide a clear and firm clarification regarding the legal costs associated with the issuance of Letters of Demand (LODs) to parking defaulters with respect to outstanding compounds for parking offences.
Once the council issues a lawyer's letter, individuals who have not paid their outstanding parking Compound will have to pay an additional RM400 legal fee besides the original fine.
This legal fee will only be incurred if the parking violators fail to comply with the council’s prior notice or demand to settle unpaid fines. The fee is not automatically charged; it arises due to the violator's non-payment. Miri City Council is committed to ensuring that the legal process is transparent, efficient, and fully complies with procedural laws.
The council urges the public to regularly check unpaid parking fines through parking applications or by directly contacting the council's parking department.
