Flight Attendants Announce Strike on the 16th, Air Canada Forced to Suspend All Flights

Air Canada's flight attendants plan to go on strike starting on the 16th, forcing Air Canada to gradually cancel flights from the 14th and to suspend all flights on the 16th.

As Canada's largest airline, Air Canada has warned passengers with unconfirmed flights not to go to the airport.

Air Canada stated that any passengers who have booked flights between August 15 and August 18 may reschedule for free to other dates between August 21 and September 12, provided that the ticket was purchased no later than August 13.

Air Canada said that if a flight is canceled, the company will do its utmost to rebook passengers on the next available flight and will coordinate with more than 120 international and domestic airlines to explore alternative arrangements.

It is understood that about 130,000 passengers per day may be affected by this service disruption.

The union and the airline failed to reach an agreement at the mediation meeting held at the end of last month.

The union stated in a declaration that, after the breakdown of negotiations, it had issued the company a 72-hour strike notice. 99.7% of union members voted in favor of striking.

The statement said that although a federal mediator intervened, no breakthrough was made in the negotiations. "Air Canada's latest response shows that they have no intention to resolve these issues."

Air Canada earlier said that the company had offered to increase compensation to the union representing 10,000 flight attendants, but the offer was rejected.
