KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) and the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) are set to strengthen strategic cooperation, particularly in balancing the economic vibrancy of settlers with the nation’s environmental sustainability agenda.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup, said the collaboration would focus on, among others, the potential participation of Felda land in carbon market initiatives to create new, environmentally sustainable income streams.

He added that the partnership would also emphasise the conservation of water catchment areas surrounding planned land developments to ensure long-term environmental sustainability.

“I received a courtesy call from a Felda delegation led by its chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek at my office today.

“This meeting served as an important platform to enhance strategic cooperation between NRES and Felda,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Arthur expressed confidence that through closer collaboration, Felda communities would not only achieve socio-economic progress but also emerge as pioneers in sustainable agricultural practices for the benefit of future generations.
