(Kuala Lumpur, 13th) PAS has urged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar to provide an explanation to the people regarding the alleged leak of the Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) meeting minutes circulating on social media.
The party's information chief, Ahmad Fadhli, wrote on Facebook that the contents of the leaked meeting minutes are concerning and have a significant impact on the integrity of the judiciary and the Prime Minister's position.
"If the relevant allegations are true and there is no concrete evidence to refute them, Anwar, as Prime Minister, would no longer meet the constitutional requirements for integrity, trust, and high moral principles in the administration, and should immediately resign."
Ahmad Fadhli also warned the judiciary, especially senior judges, not to collude with any forces that undermine the judicial system.
He stated that when justice prevails, anyone who tries to tarnish the judiciary will not be able to escape accountability regardless of their position or status.
Previously, a document alleging to be the JAC's internal meeting minutes circulated on social media, with contents reportedly linked to a senior judge accused of judicial interference and summoned for questioning by the commission.
According to media reports, the meeting minutes showed that former Chief Justice of the Federal Court, Tun Tengku Maimun, and Chief Judge of Malaya, Tan Sri Hasnah, had differences over the nominee for the Chief Judge of Malaya post.
The reports indicate that Tengku Maimun nominated Federal Court judge Vazer Anan for the Chief Judge of Malaya, while Hasnah recommended another senior judge. During the meeting, Tengku Maimun questioned the experience of the senior judge and accused them of interfering in judicial appointments and a particular case's verdict while serving as Attorney General.
The meeting minutes showed that Hasnah considered the accusation serious and decided to summon the senior judge for questioning. The judge admitted in the meeting to violating the JAC's decisions by unilaterally nominating candidates for the Malayan judge post, but could not recall whether there had been interference in case verdicts.
After this incident, Tengku Maimun retired, Hasnah temporarily assumed the role of Chief Justice of the Federal Court, and Federal Court judge Datuk Zabariah.
Meanwhile, according to Malaysiakini, Bersatu information chief Datuk Wan Saiful also stated that if the leaked document is genuine, then the trust crisis faced by Anwar's government is like a "cancer cell" that is eroding the judiciary, which should be free from political and administrative interference.
"If this is true, and the judiciary has been tainted, the people will no longer have any channel to seek fair and just judicial decisions."
He called for the establishment of an independent and transparent investigation team to thoroughly probe the content of the meeting minutes, and once again urged the public to actively participate in the 'Oust Anwar' rally on July 26.
