Many people use ChatGPT to assist in searching for information, but blindly trusting it can lead to unexpected results. A Spanish influencer couple recently posted a video on TikTok, revealing they missed their flight to Puerto Rico and broke down at the airport because they believed wrong information from ChatGPT.
According to foreign media reports, the TikTok video shows Mery Caldass walking through the airport in tears, while her boyfriend Alejandro Cid comforts her. Amid sobs, she says, “I usually do a lot of research, but I asked ChatGPT and it said I didn’t need it.”
The couple had asked whether they needed a visa to enter Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory. ChatGPT replied “no visa required,” but failed to mention the necessity of applying for an Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) in advance.
In the video, Mery claims ChatGPT “holds a grudge,” saying, “because sometimes I scold it, this is its revenge...”
After the story came out, some netizens praised her for maintaining a sense of humor during a tough time, while others were scathing: “Relying solely on ChatGPT for intercontinental travel, you’re lucky it wasn’t worse,” “Who would trust ChatGPT with something like this?” “They asked the wrong question—the answer is yes, you don’t need a visa, but you should also ask if an ESTA is needed.”
According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection regulations, travelers from Visa Waiver Program countries, including Spain, must have a valid ESTA to enter the United States. (Source: Liberty Times)
