Every evening from 7 pm to 10 pm in a park in Seoul, South Korea, a police officer about 1.7 meters tall, dressed in uniform, appears. However, this is neither a haunting nor a prank—it’s a “3D (holographic) police officer projection” specially set up by the police to prevent crimes such as drunken violence and robbery.
It is reported that since the installation of this holographic projection, the crime rate in the area surrounding the park has dropped by about 22%.
According to local media reports, every night at Jung-dong 3rd Park in Seoul, a uniformed police officer appears and says: “If an emergency occurs, the police will respond immediately. There are surveillance cameras here.” After speaking, he suddenly disappears. Two minutes later, he appears again, repeats the same words, and then vanishes once more.
The Seoul Central Police Station stated that since the installation of the projection, the crime rate near the park has dropped significantly.
Since October last year, the police have been installing life-sized holographic projections in the park, showing the images every evening from 7 pm to 10 pm. After analyzing crime data for the eight-month period from October last year to May this year, they found that compared to the same period before the installation (October 2023 to May 2024), the number of occurrences of the five major crimes (murder, robbery, rape, theft, violence) within the park's vicinity dropped by about 22%.
