A former brewery owner, after feeding his pet dog at a restaurant table and being stopped by a restaurant employee, suddenly lost his temper, verbally abused the employee, and, when the employee tried to take away a ceramic plate, grabbed the plate and smashed it on the employee's head, causing the employee to suffer a skull fracture and be rushed to hospital.
According to the New York Post, a former brewery owner from North Carolina, USA, was arrested by police for allegedly hitting a steakhouse employee on the head with a ceramic plate.
According to a statement posted on Facebook by the Wilmington Police Department, 49-year-old David Gary Sholer (former brewery operator) has been charged with “assault causing serious injury” at a LongHorn Steakhouse.
Police investigation revealed that Sholer dined at the restaurant with his dog on that day, and violated health regulations by feeding his pet dog at the table. An employee discovered this and informed him that this behavior violated health codes but also proactively suggested he could pack up the food for his pet to eat.
Unexpectedly, Sholer suddenly lost his temper, not only verbally abusing the employee, but also, when the employee asked him to leave the restaurant and tried to take away the ceramic plate from the table, he grabbed the plate and smashed it on the employee's head, causing the plate to shatter instantly. The employee suffered a skull fracture and was rushed to the hospital.
According to local WECT TV, the victim is still suffering from aftereffects.
After Sholer was released on August 7 on a $1,000 (about 4,200 ringgit) bond, his brewery issued an emergency statement distancing itself, stating that as of July 14, 2025, all ownership had already been transferred and the brewery is now run by Sholer's sister.
