(Russia, 29th) — Russian President Putin said in a national television interview that the Kremlin hopes US negotiators Whitkoff and Kushner can come to Moscow to continue negotiations on ending the war in Ukraine.
According to Bloomberg, in an interview released on Sunday (June 28), Putin said: “We anticipate that once everything settles down and the active phase of the Iran issue is over, those US government representatives, whom we have met many times in Moscow, will come.”
He said: “We are ready to continue negotiations, and are willing to continue talking, to discuss all the details—even if an agreement cannot be reached, at least discussing those topics that were discussed in Anchorage.”
The meeting in Anchorage refers to the Russia-US summit held in Anchorage, Alaska, on August 15 of last year between US President Trump and Putin.
Putin added that Moscow has received new proposals to restrict military operations in Ukraine: one proposal is to stop long-range strikes on targets deep within both Russia and Ukraine, and another to limit combat to four occupied regions of Ukraine.
Putin said he rejected these proposals because limiting the fighting to these four regions would allow the Ukrainian military to redeploy troops from other fronts.
The White House has not yet commented on this.
Previously, at the G7 summit in France, Trump said that Russia should "reach an agreement" with Ukraine.
On June 24, Trump said that Ukrainian President Zelensky had performed outstandingly in the war against Russia, whereas previously he had said that Zelensky lacked the “leverage” to win.
