Canada Hill Landslide Worries: Continued Severe Weather Requires Vigilance

(Miri, 28th) Recent heavy rainfall has made the geological condition of Canada Hill in Miri increasingly unstable, significantly increasing the risk of landslides.

Miri City Council (MCC) Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang revealed that relevant departments are currently assessing the affected areas, including damaged houses and the number of residents. To ensure safety, the police have cordoned off high-risk areas and strengthened monitoring.

He pointed out that due to prolonged rainfall, the pressure on the earth layers has increased, significantly reducing stability in some areas of Canada Hill. This has resulted in soil loosening, potentially leading to ground collapses. Government departments are closely monitoring the situation to quickly implement response measures if necessary.

He emphasized that safety remains a primary concern, urging residents to remain vigilant, particularly during extreme weather.

According to the Meteorological Department's forecast, Miri will continue to experience heavy rainfall in the next two days, potentially worsening the geological conditions. Adam Yii reminded the public to keep abreast of the latest weather forecasts and strictly follow government safety guidelines. In particular, residents living in elevated or low-lying areas should take preventive measures early.
