(Miri, 28th) Miri Member of Parliament Chiew Choon Man stated in a post today that the severe traffic congestion at the Sungai Tujuh checkpoint (ICQS Sungai Tujuh) caused by a malfunction of the Vehicle Monitoring System (VMS) has been successfully resolved, and the system is now fully operational.

Chiew Choon Man pointed out that due to system maintenance work, visitors from Brunei were unable to register their Brunei vehicles online in advance, forcing them to fill out manual forms at the checkpoint, which slowed down the clearance process and led to long delays.

To alleviate the situation, the authorities at the Sungai Tujuh checkpoint implemented emergency measures, arranging for Brunei drivers to park their vehicles aside and collectively pick up manual forms, in order to avoid hindering the passage of other vehicles. However, due to the high number of visitors that day, this measure was still unable to completely ease the congestion.

Chiew Choon Man stated that he urgently contacted the political secretary to the Minister of Finance, urging the relevant department to expedite system maintenance work. He emphasized the importance of ensuring smooth cross-border passage, especially during holidays and peak periods.

“I want to thank all the affected visitors and drivers for their patience and urge the relevant parties to take action quickly to prevent similar issues from occurring again.

Additionally, Chiew Choon Man updated today that the political secretary to the Minister of Finance has confirmed that the maintenance work on the Vehicle Monitoring System has been completed, and the system has been fully restored, allowing users to normally use the service by visiting https://vms.customs.gov.my.

He once again expressed gratitude for the efforts of the checkpoint authorities and promised to continue monitoring similar issues to ensure more convenient cross-border travel in the future.
