The 61st Asia Pacific Film Festival Opens on November 29 - Sammo Hung Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award

The 61st Asia Pacific Film Festival (abbreviated as APFF) will be grandly held in Kuala Lumpur from November 29 to December 1. Martial arts superstar Sammo Hung, who has dominated the Hong Kong film industry for over 60 years, will be awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award to honor his contributions in leading and promoting Hong Kong martial arts action films.

The Asia Pacific Film Festival, also known as the Asia Pacific Film Fest, is organized by the Federation of Motion Picture Producers in Asia Pacific. Established in 1953, it is the most historic film art exchange event and an important event for cultivating film talent with certain influence. The festival is held annually in rotation among member countries. Malaysian film producer and supervisor Xu Kangwen took over as the chairman of the organizing committee for the 61st Asia Pacific Film Festival last year on behalf of Malaysia. He expressed feeling honored and indicated that the festival is a very important event for Malaysia. It not only promotes the development of the domestic cultural and artistic fields but also attracts international attention to Malaysia's film industry.

The organizing committee recently announced that the highest honor, the Lifetime Achievement Award, will be awarded to one of Hong Kong’s legendary martial arts superstars, Sammo Hung. At 72 years old, Sammo Hung is a film producer, director, action choreographer, and actor who has been involved in the Hong Kong film industry for over 60 years. His unique martial arts style and agile, insightful actions have won the love and appreciation of audiences. Films he starred in, such as "Carry On Pickpocket," "The Five Lucky Stars," "Millionaire’s Express," and "Eastern Condors," are all box office guarantees. Entering the new millennium, Hung also served as the action director for "Ip Man" and "Ip Man 2" and has won the Best Action Choreography at the Hong Kong Film Awards four times. His tireless spirit leads and promotes the development of Hong Kong action films. He is regarded as a major figure in the Hong Kong film industry, and his achievements are unparalleled.

The 61st Asia Pacific Film Festival will be held for three days from November 29 to December 1 at the Wyndham Ion Majestic Hotel in Genting Highlands. In addition to film screenings, creators including directors, producers, and actors will attend film seminars, screenings, and interactive activities after the screenings to communicate their viewing experiences and behind-the-scenes stories face-to-face with fans.

This year's judging panel is chaired by Pansha, Secretary-General of the Federation of Asia Pacific Film. Renowned Hong Kong director Ko Chi Sum, Malaysian film producer Shamin Yusof, senior Taiwanese film worker Hu Zhongguang, and Australian actor Campbell Graham will serve as judges. The Malaysian thriller "Indera," directed by Hu Mingjin and starring Shaheizy Sam, Azira Shafinaz, and Samara Kenzo, will be the opening film. Various awards for the main competition unit of the 61st Asia Pacific Film Festival will be announced at the awards ceremony, aiming to recognize outstanding contributors and their achievements.
