US Media: Trump Administration Agrees to Hold Talks with Iran in Oman

Published at Feb 04, 2026 10:04 pm
On the 3rd, the US news website Axios reported that the Trump administration has agreed to hold talks with Iran on the 6th in Oman.

The report cited an Arab country source as saying that Iran requested the talks to be moved from Turkey to Oman, and "the Trump administration has agreed to Iran's request."

The source also pointed out that discussions are still ongoing regarding whether other countries in the Middle East will join the talks in Oman.

Axios had previously reported that several countries were invited to participate in the talks, but the Iranian side hoped that only Iran and the US would attend.

Earlier that day, Trump stated in the White House Oval Office to the media that multiple rounds of talks would be held between the US and Iran.

Trump said that because the US and Iran had failed to reach an agreement before, the US launched the "Midnight Hammer" operation to strike Iranian nuclear facilities, "I think they (Iran) do not want something like that to happen again, they want to negotiate. We are now talking with them."

On June 21, 2025, the US launched the "Midnight Hammer" strike operation, and Trump announced that the US military had "successfully struck" Iran's Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear facilities.

Currently Consulting with the US on the Venue for Talks

On the 3rd, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Baghai stated that plans for upcoming Iran-US talks in the coming days have already been set, and currently both sides are consulting on the location of the talks.

He told Iran News Agency that Turkey, Oman, and other regional countries have expressed willingness to host the talks. Iran highly values this and expresses gratitude to all friendly nations “who are concerned and sincere” in their efforts to promote the diplomatic process.

Baghai also emphasized that the arrangements for the venue and timing of talks are not complicated issues and there is no need for the media to “hype” them.
