(Iran, 10th) Iranian state media reported that the assassinated Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was buried on the 9th at the mausoleum in Mashhad. A large number of people participated in the funeral, but his son and successor, Mojtaba, has still not appeared in public.

The northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad is Khamenei’s birthplace.

According to footage released by Iranian media, Khamenei’s body was transported by vehicle to the Imam Reza Shrine, with the vehicle slowly moving through crowded streets. Clerics wearing white turbans walked alongside the truck.

Mourners dressed in black followed behind, waving Iranian flags. Some held banners reading "Kill (U.S. President) Trump", and others shouted anti-American slogans such as “I swear by the blood of the Supreme Leader, Trump, we will kill you!”

Khamenei was killed in the first wave of attacks launched by the U.S. and Israel at the end of February. His burial ceremony marked the end of a week-long period of mourning in Iran and Iraq.

Although Iran survived the attacks from the U.S. and Israel, the nation continues to face major internal challenges. Khamenei’s performance during his 37 years in power remains controversial. Earlier in March, his son Mojtaba was declared the new Supreme Leader by the Assembly of Experts, which is made up of clerics, but his whereabouts still remain a mystery.

Mojtaba was seriously injured in the attack that killed his father. Since the outbreak of war, although he has issued written statements, he has never appeared in public, nor has any images, video, or audio of him been released.

Senior officials in Tehran revealed that Mojtaba is recovering, but his health is not yet good enough for a public appearance. Iran’s national security agencies are also trying to limit his exposure to prevent further attacks by the United States.
