Customs Department Director General, Datuk Aniiz Rizana, stated that the customs department has procured 40 luggage scanners equipped with artificial intelligence to be distributed to various entry points across Malaysia for comprehensive luggage scanning.
She mentioned that these scanners can identify scanned items with 100% accuracy within 20 to 30 seconds, improving customs operations efficiency, enhancing border control, and national security.
She noted that according to the data obtained from customs officers across Malaysia, items such as drugs and Zamzam water have been seized during the scans.
She made these remarks during a press conference held at the Customs Department headquarters in Putrajaya today (9th), where she disclosed last year's performance of the customs department.
Aniiz Rizana said that the customs department continues to cooperate with Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad and the Department of Wildlife and National Parks of Peninsular Malaysia (PERHILITAN) to strengthen enforcement at international airports. Malaysia Airports Holdings is responsible for the logistics of airport operations and passenger transport, as well as conducting checks before luggage is boarded, while the customs department is responsible for inspecting carry-on luggage, and the Department of Wildlife and National Parks is tasked with addressing the smuggling and trafficking of wildlife.
