Human Rights Commission staff, dissatisfied with internal unfair treatment, plan to hold a rally this Friday (10th) in Kuala Lumpur.

The interim chairman of the commission's union, Aiza, told Malaysiakini today (9th) that they are organizing the rally based on three issues: the salary increase of three deputy secretaries, a different performance evaluation system for the three deputy secretaries compared to other staff, and allegations that the Human Rights Commission is not participating in the Public Service Remuneration Scheme (SSPA).

“There really is no transparency here.”

She said that staff are unaware of how the deputy secretaries were promoted from level 52 to level 54, or how much their salaries would increase under the new 360 evaluation system.

“We question why these three individuals were promoted, and why they are using a different system?”

“I see this as discrimination.”

Aiza stated that the government does indeed provide a limited time for departments and agencies to sign documents regarding the Public Service Remuneration Scheme, but the Human Rights Commission has delayed doing so.

Because of this, she said the staff have not received any response to date.

She added that the Human Rights Commission has never established a union, so staff may explore the possibility of forming one after the rally.

Human Rights Commissioner Laguna, when asked, said he was unaware of these issues.

This rally will begin at 8 AM on Friday, at the Human Rights Commission headquarters, Menara TH Perdana in Kuala Lumpur.
