100% Tariff on Overseas Film Productions "Avatar" Becomes a Target

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a shocking policy: all films produced overseas will be subject to a 100% tariff. Trump argues that the U.S. film industry has declined due to foreign countries offering tax breaks and subsidies, causing Hollywood production teams to move abroad. He claims this threatens America's "national security" and its dominance in "cultural narratives."

Trump has authorized the U.S. Department of Commerce and Trade Representative to begin imposing a 100% tariff on non-domestic films, aiming to bring the film industry back to the U.S. He believes that the massive outflow of American film talent has reached a critical point and accuses foreign films of spreading political propaganda into the U.S. He declared passionately, "We must restore America's glory in filmmaking."

This policy will make it challenging for many foreign films to screen in the U.S., potentially reducing the number of international entries at the next Oscars. Many American productions that moved overseas to cut costs may also face production halts due to the tariff, which would significantly increase their expenses. Among the first to be affected is the Avatar series, produced in New Zealand, which is now subject to heavy taxation.
