The State Council Information Office of China held a series of press conferences on the theme of high-quality completion of the 14th Five-Year Plan. Zheng Shanjie, Director of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), stated that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, China's economic strength has significantly increased and has been a major contributor to global economic growth. The country's total economic output has exceeded 130 trillion yuan (76.84 trillion ringgit), and it is expected to reach 140 trillion yuan (82.75 trillion ringgit) this year. Over the five years, the economic increase is expected to exceed 35 trillion yuan (20.69 trillion ringgit).
He mentioned that in the first four years, the average economic growth rate reached 5.5%. Despite various risks and challenges, such a growth rate has persisted, which is unprecedented in the history of economic development.
Zheng Shanjie said that in less than 180 days, the 14th Five-Year Plan will come to an end. For the outline drafted five years ago, among all the main indicators, those related to economic growth, labor productivity per capita, and total social R&D investment have progressed as expected; eight indicators, including the urbanization rate of permanent residents, average life expectancy, and comprehensive capacity for grain and energy production, have exceeded expectations; all the strategic tasks set out in the plan have been fully implemented, and 102 major projects are being steadily and successfully advanced.
Zheng Shanjie described that in the past five years, new pioneering progresses, breakthrough changes, and historic achievements have been made. China has become the most stable, reliable, and positive force for global development.
