Mudslide at Gyirong Port, Tibet: 9 Dead in Nepal, 11 Missing on Chinese Side

Heavy rainfall triggered flash floods and mudslides in Rasuwa District, northern Nepal, and Gyirong County, Shigatse City, Tibet, China. According to Nepalese police, as of 8 PM on the 8th, 9 bodies have been found, 18 people remain missing, and 57 have been rescued. On the Chinese side at the Gyirong port, 11 people are still missing.

Xinhua News Agency reported that at around 5 AM on the 8th, a mudslide disaster occurred in the area of the Gyirong port along the China-Nepal border, in Gyirong County, Shigatse City, Tibet. Preliminary statistics show that the mudslide caused 11 people to go missing on the Chinese side, and on the Nepalese side, 6 Chinese construction workers are known to be missing. The Chinese Embassy in Nepal has activated an emergency response mechanism and dispatched a working group to the disaster area.
